dos & don'ts

Dos

  • Re-assess your hair colour and have it coloured professionally.
  • Make sure your hairstyle suits your face shape and doesn’t look dated.
  • Consider wearing a fringe over the brow to hide a lined forehead and soften the face but go for something light and feathery.

Don’ts

  • Over straighten hair – poker-straight hair is not always flattering on older women as it can look too severe. A smooth softer look will be more flattering.
  • Keep your centre parting – you can create a whole new look by just switching your parting. A centre parting looks great on teenagers, but can look too harsh on older faces. So try flipping it to the side, which is universally more flattering.
  • Block colour your hair – splices of colour through the hair will keep it looking fresh and give it a bit of movement. If you do prefer all over colour, don’t go more than two shades lighter than your natural hue or it will drain the skin.
