dos & don'ts

Dos

  • Use a concealer – we all get shadows and circles. Go for a creamy shade lighter than your natural tone, but not too light at the headlight effect will not do you any favours either.
  • Pluck your eyebrows - neatly plucked and shaped eye brows – can take years off your face. Pluck from the underside never the top.
  • On cheeks use colours that suit your skin tone – if you have pale or freckly skin choose a soft baby pink shade. Olive skins should go for a peachy tone and russet looks good on black or asian skin. Highlighter is also good but only use in tiny doses. Too much and you’ll just look sweaty.

Don’ts

  • Use heavy foundation -to prevent creasing and a caked look. A darker foundation than your natural skin-tone won’t boost pale skin or hide redness. Now more than ever you should be wearing foundation that matches the exact colour of your skin rather than the colour you wish you were.
  • Wear too much eye make-up - black eyeliner, mascara and dark eye colours can be very ageing. Take it easy when applying eye make-up. Eyes tend to sink as you get older so piling on the make up will make them look smaller and draw attention to the lines.
  • Use a lip-liner darker than your lipstick. Although lips get thinner as we age colouring outside the lips won’t help. Avoid dark matt colours and beige based neutrals as they can make you look drawn. Plump up your lips with soft creamy shades.
